STRONGER AGEING
We are all older adults in training.
Getting older does not mean becoming fragile.
Strength can be trained.
Balance can be challenged.
Confidence can be rebuilt.
Physiotherapy can help you keep doing the things that allow you to live independently and enjoy your life.

Physiotherapy does not have to look gentle just because you are older.

What are we actually training for?
Getting up from a low chair
Walking further
Getting on and off the floor
Feeling more confident outside the home
Playing with grandchildren
Staying independent at home
Carrying shopping
Managing stairs
Improving balance
Returning to hobbies
Recovering after illness or surgery

Getting older doesn’t mean training has to get easier.
Strength can still be built as we age.
Exercise should be matched to the person in front of us, but age alone is not a reason to avoid challenge or underdose strength training.
Where appropriate, physiotherapy progressively builds strength, balance and physical capacity using exercises such as squats, sit-to-stands, step-ups, carries, lifting, floor transfers and balance tasks.
The goal is not to make exercise difficult for the sake of it.
The goal is to build enough capacity for the demands of everyday life.
Strength. Balance. Capacity. Confidence.

Independence is built from everyday capacity.
The goal is not simply to complete exercises in a clinic.
We look at what has become difficult, what you want to keep doing, and what physical qualities are limiting you.
Then we progressively train those abilities.
Strength. Balance. Capacity. Confidence.
